    Abstract:

As a crucial basic material for new energy batteries, non-ferrous metals are closely related to the development of the battery industry and have a significant impact on its development trend. The promulgation of the new EU Battery Regulation compels the low-carbon development of the EU battery industry, at the same time, raises the threshold for Chinese new energy batteries to enter the European market. It also imposes special requirements on upstream non-ferrous metal-related products and engineering construction in the industry chain. This article elucidated the content and background of the new EU Battery Regulation, analyzed its impact on the non-ferrous metal industry and standard system, specifically focusing on the carbon footprint of battery life cycle and the recycling of raw materials. Combining with the existing standard system of China’s non-ferrous metal industry, suggestions were made to accelerate the establishment of a carbon footprint accounting and evaluation standard system, improve the recycling and reuse standard system, and further enhance international cooperation in standards.
